Season 1 of the Apple TV+ original period drama, The Essex Serpent was picked up for a series order on August 24, 2020.[1] It will premiere on May 13, 2022, on Apple TV+, with two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.[2]
Synopsis[]
London widow Cora Seaborne moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar, but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature. Based on the novel by Sarah Perry.

- On August 24, 2020, Apple TV+ ordered The Essex Serpent to series with Keira Knightley to star and executive producer.[1]
- On October 12, 2020, Knightley dropped out of the project due to COVID-19 concerns.[3]
- On February 10, 2021, Claire Danes replaced Knightley in the lead role.[4]
- On March 16, 2021, Tom Hiddleston was cast to star opposite to Danes.[5]
